Night Stand Makeover

Today I want to show you what I did to this ugly, boxy nightstand to make it more feminine and pretty. It was in really rough shape but I liked the design of the stand. We bought it as part of a bedroom set last year. The dresser and the chest sold right away. I couldn’t give this night stand away. I tried, I really did! If someone had offered it to me free, I’m not sure I would have taken it!

But once I brought it home and looked at it, I decided there was a second life in it. It’s pretty now, don’t you think? It looks lacey! Let me tell you how I did it…..

First we took the door off. The door is one door tho it looks like two. We painted the carcass Country White. We set it aside to dry while I worked on the door.
See how chipped the door was. It had two door pulls on it that were nice but I decided to go with the little round pulls.
I took the door pulls off and filled the holes with wood filler, sanded it when it was dry.

First I gave the door one coat of paint. I did this because I was decorating it with washers and unless you are spray painting it, it’s hard to get the paint down in the grooves.

Then using a glue gun, I glued the washers in the pattern I choose. It didn’t take as long as it looks. A few burnt fingers later, I was done.

I then painted over the washers.

It looked pretty neat just this way, but I wanted a distressed look so I took a sander to the night stand after reattaching the doors.

I took some brown paint that I had and thinned it with water to make the glaze. I painted it on and wiped it off before it dried. Ron then drilled new holes for the pulls and attached them. It was done!

It doesn’t look like the old piece at all. Hope it sells now.
